Weather in the Okavango Delta
Botswana's location in the tropics and away from the sea, makes way for a semi-arid climate with abundant sunshine and scanty rainfall. The Okavango Delta, with an average annual rainfall of 450mm, is an oasis in this arid land.
Rainfall in Okavango Delta occurs in the form of heavy, afternoon thunderstorms between December and March. From December to February, the climate is hot, humid and rainy. However, the temperature drops between March and May. During this period, daytime weather is very pleasant, while night temperatures range from mild to cool. Botswana’s winters, from June to August, are cold and dry. Surprisingly, winter nights in the Delta come close to freezing point, so be prepared if you are visiting during that time of the year.
